Homage to Delft symposium 2009
'with her great interest for and knowledge of the material possibilities she constructed her things in beauty'

Ann Derkx was inspired by the title of the symposium. When hearing the name of the city of Delft she thinks of WAD, of water and the reflection of the sky in it, of the people who made Delft known in the world, and of the Delft blue.
She told that the tobaccopots in her grannies cupboard inspired her. She expressed her Homage in a very original way. In the same way deadmasks are made by laying clay on a face, she made clay-impressions of her body and decorated them with a beautiful row of Delft blue fragments of broken ceramics and a replica of Delft’s coat of arms. It was fascinating to see how, with great interest for and knowledge of the material possiblities she constructed her things of beauty
(a joy for ever!), which in a highly personal way gives expression to her very personal feelings.
