Tamaar Tóth Varjú

Art under the volcano - symposium 2009/Indonesia

* textile and installation artist.
Tóth Varjú always makes (monumental) fashion.
For this symposium she has made inquiries into traditional Indonesian wayang puppets, but she wants to transform them into a 21st century installation.
The result is a real artwork: very precious and delicate. It’s a contemporary wayang scenery.

Recycle Art - symposium 2008

'recycle art is a process of association.'

Tóth Varjú has frequently recycled materials within her work. She considers it a process of association: 'You come across materials and you decide to use them because of the way you think about material.'
She has an open mind and doesn't want everything preordained. She has a good sense for materials.

Her multifunctional artwork for 'Recycle Art' was borne from her experience at World Art Delft. The artists slept in tents and they went on recycled bikes to the Technical University of Delft. Thus she has created from an old canvas and an old bike, a quintessentially Dutch article of high artistic value.
She enjoyed spending an entire week at the symposium where she could fully concentrate on the development of an idea. The development of the artwork was drawn from her immediate experiences and environment.
