And the Dutch author Hella Haasse describes in The Landscape Of The Soul a beautiful image of slopes in Java: the bitter scent of tea bushes, the splashing of clear streams and the blue cloud shadows over the lowland.
These two examples of a Dutch feeling and view on the archipelago between two continents, Indonesia, are typical to paint the man and artist Dodog Soeseno.
That is the isle where he has been educated and where he has inherited his values. His fervor, his splashing and his respectfully personality are his distinct characteristics. He is the sea and the sky.
Dodog has developed himself in Europe and The Netherlands into the versatile artist he is today.

We know Dodog Soeseno from our first exhibition on Indonesia in 2000. His personality has immediately catched our eyes: he is amiable, humorous but specially loyal to colleagues. He has a gift to recognize talent. And that is only possible if you are a talent yourself.
From our first encounter we both have the feeling that World Art Delft is a home base for Dodog. He belongs to this place; he has a strong feeling with us and he is a welcome replenishment of our organization.
It is a good feeling to work together with him as curator of World Art Delft. He gives a positive direction to our artistic policy. His skills as an artist and as a teacher gives him his naturally authority in supervising young colleagues.
The artist Soeseno is a chapter of its own. A chapter of his own diary.
Originally he has been classified as an adept of the Cobra movement, but soon we recognize him as an artist of the phantasm.
It´s all about desire and fulfillment. His art shows a fine stratification. We like to observe him; we like to see the pleasure when he starts an artwork and the satisfaction afterwards. His symbols of triangles and flower-like lines are more than just lines. They are philosophical thoughts of a dreamer and a longing spirit, a sole individual. He has become an international artist, an artist through and through (pur sang). Besides this all: Dodog is an exquisite cook. And they use to say `If an artist is a good cooker, he is a good artist as well.´
